The root-ball is the root system with the soil intact around it and which is in direct contact with the ground and which allows certain species, such as olive trees, to be transplanted.
Transplanting using this system guarantees that the olive tree arrives in a perfect and first-rate condition. The best time to carry out this process is during the dormant period, as there will be less harm to the plant when its roots are cut. The root-ball must be protected before lifting it from the ground and should be taken to its new location as soon as possible. Once replanted, it should be watered and fertilized with phosphorous, potassium and rooting hormones to help it take root.
